Residence M E

Due to the homeowner’s frequent travel between cities for work, we envisioned this new home not merely as a temporary stop, but as a stable sanctuary where daily life can settle and the pace of life can be recalibrated. Situated in a quiet alley, the residence leverages its semi-detached structure and three-sided natural light. By positioning rooms along the perimeter, we ensured ample sunlight and superior ventilation throughout. At the entrance, a dark wood volume defines the foyer and integrates the family shrine; linear lighting is utilized to imbue the ritual space with a sense of ceremony while maintaining aesthetic cohesion.

To accommodate remote work, a study with expansive display shelving—housing memories from the owner’s travels—is situated adjacent to the living room. Replacing solid walls with glass partitions maintains an unobstructed line of sight, allowing the workspace and lounge area to flow into one another. This “borrowed scenery” expands the perceived boundaries of the home while balancing transparency with privacy. Given the frequent business trips, a luggage storage area and an electronic sanitizing closet are tucked behind sliding doors in the study, ensuring a streamlined homecoming routine. By enhancing natural conditions and establishing an orderly dwelling, the owner can return to a clear core after a busy day—leaving the hustle outside and keeping tranquility within.
